WhitneyName: Whitney Parker          
                                                                                                            Place of Birth: Boise, Idaho

Current Position: Director of Communications for the World Security Institute.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Manages all aspects of public affairs and strategic communications, including media relations, publications, electronic communications and events.

  • Internship coordinator for WSI.

  • Coordinator of the bi-monthly publication the Defense Monitor.

  • Editor of several journals, including China Security and Caucasus Context, full-length monographs and books, and hundreds of commentaries and analyses.

Prior experience:

  • Prior to becoming communications director, she was a research assistant for the Straus Military Reform Project and Space Security Project within a division of WSI known as the Center for Defense Information.

  • Research intern at the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation.

  • Research assistant for The Wilderness Society’s Idaho office, compiling outreach materials related to wilderness designation.

  • Research assistant at Boise State University, where she co-authored a paper on the formation of acid rain policy in the United State and Canada, which was published in the Journal of Borderland Studies.

Academic experience before Maxwell:

  • B.S. in political science with a specialization in international relations and certification as a professional mediator from Boise State University.

BrentName: Brent Nordstrom

Current Position: Senior Program Officer for the World Wildlife Fund

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Manages operations, communications and outreach for the WWF’s Macroeconomics Program Office.

  • Advisor on management issues to the director, overlooking the communications, outreach, and advocacy portfolio.  

  • Produces communication materials and strategies to provide transparency of activities, advocate policy change, promote new approaches and methodologies with organizations and institutions, and create a credible platform for fundraising and future projects.

  • Works with specialized target audiences: WWF partners/allies: WWF-Network, World Bank, and Civil Society.

 Prior experience:

  • Prior to becoming senior program officer, he was a Program Assistant, Communications Officer and Program Officer at the WWF

  • Interned with Electoral Reform International Services in London

  • Interned at the U.S. Information Agency’s Office of Research and Media Reactions in Washington, DC.

Aly Z. RamjiName: Aly Ramji

Current Position: African/Middle East Research Analyst with AFA-Press, Washington, DC.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conducting economic research and analysis on emerging markets.

  • Writes market profiles of various economic sectors of countries in Africa and the Middle East, focusing on banking, industry and telecommunications. 

Prior experience:

  • Prior to becoming senior program officer, Ramji undertook the program evaluation for the UN's Cultural Activities Program at the United Nations Office of Internal Oversight Services  in Geneva. He developed new methods to promote efficient outreach and communication activities and worked on various UN audits.

  • He worked with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania on a poverty reduction communications strategy.

  • He worked in the Knowledge Communications department at the International Institute for Sustainable Development, evaluating the World Bank's Global Knowledge Partnership, co-published a paper for the World Conservation Union on assessing partnership networks, and developed a media strategy for UNESCO's Eighth Conference of African Ministers of Education in Dar es Salaam.

  • He worked in the Communications department for the Organization of African Unity (now the African Union), with the Aga Khan Development Network's communications team in various capacities. 

  • Completed a consultancy with the Central Bank of Tanzania.

Academic experience before Maxwell: B.A. in Economics - Finance and International Studies from the University of Waterloo in Canada

*Maxwell Fields of Study:

Ramji is Public Diplomacy’s first graduate acquiring dual Masters in International Relations from the Maxwell School of Public Affairs and a Masters of Science in Public Relations from the Newhouse School of Communications. He focused on development communications, government public relations and global development policy Intercultural Communications and Negotiations and European Affairs at Maxwell.

Languages: English, French, Gujerati and Kutchi, and has working knowledge of Spanish and Swahili.

Name: Mukesh Vidyasagar

Place of Birth: Madras, India

Current Position: Broadband Producer at A&E Television/The History Channel in their International Production Department

 Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Currently working on a short fictional film on the water shortage in India

  • Writing feature length script with international characters.

Prior experience:

  • Taught Math in Zimbabwe with the United States Peace Corps

  • Create games and website content during the Internet boom in San Francisco.

  • Received the Fellowship for Language and Area Studies (FLAS) for Tamil at Syracuse University

Academic experience before Maxwell:

Mukesh studied Media (screenwriting and photography) and international studies at Berkeley. He graduated with degrees in Television Radio Film from Syracuse University in conjunction with International relations from Maxwell.
